Description

An unexpected adventure scene: This painting depicts a scene as comical as it is unexpected: an old male elephant in Kruger National Park, frightened by a hot air balloon which he perceives as a monstrous creature, seizes the guide rope and leads the balloon on a wild ride across the savanna. The panicked passengers in the basket try to keep their balance as the elephant, ears pricked and trunk raised, hurtles through the trees and bushes. A nod to Jules Verne: This scene is reminiscent of a passage from "Five Weeks in a Balloon," where Jules Verne describes a similar adventure, blending exploration and unexpected twists. The artist has captured the energy and movement of this improbable chase, with bright, dynamic colors that enhance the spectacular and humorous nature of the situation.

A blend of realism and fantasy: The elephant, painted with striking realism, contrasts with the red and white hot air balloon, whose vibrant colors immediately catch the eye. The savannah landscape, with its trees and golden grasses, adds a touch of authenticity to this dreamlike scene.
