Description

This painting pays homage to Eric Tabarly, one of France's greatest sailors, during the final moments of his life in the Irish Sea on June 13, 1997. While en route to Scotland for a Fife Yacht Rally, his boat, Penduick, encountered heavy weather. After lowering the mainsail, Eric, standing on the roof, was trying to secure the gaff. Fate intervened: a particularly violent roll threw the gaff against his chest, plunging him into the sea.

The artist has striven to capture the dramatic intensity and tragic serenity of this moment, using somber colors and mauve reflections on the waves, evoking the approaching night. The silhouette of the boat and the details of the ropes and sails underscore man's struggle against the power of the sea.

This painting celebrates courage, the passion for sailing, and the fragile harmony between man and the ocean.
