Description of the article « Atlantic »
A faithful replica: The work represents the exact replica of Atlantic, financed by Ed Kastelein and built by the Van der Graaf BV shipyard (with consulting engineer Doug Peterson) in 2008. This boat, faithful to the original, now participates in classic regattas, notably at the Voiles de Saint-Tropez, thus perpetuating the legend of this iconic ship. A Tribute to a Maritime Legend: This painting pays homage to the schooner Atlantic, a legendary vessel that made sailing history by winning the transatlantic crossing trophy in 12 days, 4 hours, and 1 minute in 1905. Under the command of skipper Charlie Barr and navigator and tactician Frederick Maxfield Hoyt, Atlantic set a record that stood for 75 years before being broken by Eric Tabarly in 1978. Even after that, its record for a monohull remained unbroken for nearly 100 years, until 1997.
A Majestic Sailing Scene: The schooner is depicted on the open sea, its sails billowing in the wind, capturing all the power and elegance of this exceptional vessel. The details of the sails, masts, and hull are painted with precision, highlighting Atlantic's beauty and strength. The clear sky and gentle waves add a serene and majestic ambiance to the scene.
